HEAR: We must first hear the word of God. Without hearing the word of God we would never come to the realization that we are sinners and that the penalty for sin is a spiritual death. (Romans 3:23 & 6:23). Without hearing we also wouldn't know of Jesus' sacrifice for our sins and our ultimate need for Him. BELIEVE: We must then believe what we hear. Simply hearing the word of God doesn't save us. We must believe what we are hearing so that we are more likely to respond and obey the commands found in Gods word. (John 8:24 & Matthew 7:21) REPENT: We must repent of our sins. It is sin that separates us from God and if we want forgiveness, we must be willing to repent our sins. Repentance literally means "to turn away from". Once we turn away from sin we must make every effort to sin no more. If we do not repent of our sins, we cannot be saved. (Isaiah 59:2, Acts 3:19 & Luke 13:3) CONFESS: If we want to be saved we must confess our faith in Jesus Christ alone. (Matthew 10:32 & 1 John 4:15) BAPTISM: We must be baptized. Baptism is part of the process for the forgiveness of our sins. The conscious act of being baptized is a burial/washing process for our sins and it is accomplished through immersion. (Act 2:38, Romans 6:3-4 & Mark 16:16) FAITHFUL: After we have heard, believed, repented, confessed and have been baptized, we must then remain faithful. We must remain obedient and faithful to God until the day He calls us home. (Revelation 2:10 & 2 Timothy 4:7)
If you want to spend eternity in the loving arms of Christ then it begins with these steps. Gods word tells us in 2 Peter 3:9 that He does not want anyone to perish, but we must take that first step and follow the words found in Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
